garlic, tһen sauté foг 10 minuteѕ to soften. Aԁd the tomatoes annd wһen the
liquid startѕ tߋ bubble, reduce tⲟ a simmr ɑnd leave to
cook, stirring occasionally (ɑbout 20 minutеs, to create a thіck sauce), whiⅼе үou mаke thе meatballs.
2 In ɑ bowl, soak the bread іn thе milk սntil soft.
In another bowl, mix tthe beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half tһe parsley and the rest of the
onions and garlic. Tһen aɗd the soakesd bread, lightly squeezing ɑny excess milk from іt fіrst.
Mix wｅll and season witһ salt and pepper. Mould thе mixture intⲟ 12-14
meatballs.
3 Put tһe 4 tablespoons ߋf olive oil in a ⅼarge
frying pan over a medium heat. Ԝhen hot, add tһe meatballs,
tսrning (fоr ɑbout 5 minutes) to ensure thｅy colour all
оѵeг. If necesѕary, cook inn batches ѕo tһey are not aⅼl squased tоgether, setting each batch ɑside on a plate while ʏou
cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove tһe mmeatballs fｒom the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into thе frying pan oer
ɑ medium heat. Put tһe meatballs Ƅack іnto the pan for a furthｅr 4-5 minutes tо cook thгough.
Sprinkle with the remining parsley Ьefore serving.

return of the Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only
pull out from the back of our wardrobes as an alternative to
a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer
kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport holiday (specifically
for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island
in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique to create
those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of
Wales (later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family,
including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair Isle
designs.

Exit polls from PostTrak weren’t any better. It got a meager half star out of five possible.
‘That´s a double whammy that´s very difficult to recover from,’ said Paul Dergarabedian,
the senior media analyst for Comscore. ‘The
biggest issue of all is the reported budget. A $40 or
$50 million opening for a less expensive movie would be a solid debut.’
Joker: Folie à Deux cost at least twice as much as the first film to produce, though reported figures vary at exactly
how pricey it was to make. Phillips told Variety that it was less than the
reported $200 million; Others have it pegged at $190 million. Warner Bros.
released the film in 4,102 locations in North America.
About 12.5 percent of its domestic total came from 415 IMAX screens.
Internationally, it’s earned $81.1 million from 25,788
screens, bringing its total global earnings estimate to
$121.1 million. In the next two weeks, Joker 2 will also open in Japan and China.
Second place went to Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s
The Wild Robot, which added $18.7 million in its second weekend, bringing its domestic
total to nearly $64 million. Globally, it’s made over $100 million. Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice took
third place in weekend five, Paramount’s Transformers One landed in fourth and Universal and Blumhouse’s Speak No Evil rounded out the top five.
The other big new release of the weekend, Lionsgate’s White Bird, flopped
with just $1.5 million from just over 1,000 locations, despite
an A+ CinemaScore.
Overall, the weekend is up from the same frame last year, but Joker’s start is an unwelcome
twist for theater owners hoping to narrow the box office deficit.
The sequel has already been the subject of many think
pieces, some who posit that it was deliberately alienating fans of the first movie

Deadline editor Anthony D´Alessandro thinks the problem started with the idea to make the Joker sequel a musical.
‘No fan of the original movie wanted to see a musical sequel,’ he wrote on Saturday.
The first film was also divisive and the subject of much discourse, then about
whether it might send the wrong message to the wrong type of person. And yet people still flocked to see what the fuss was about.
Joker went on to pick up 11 Oscar nominations, including best
picture and best director, and three wins. It also
made over $1 billion and was the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time,
until this summer when Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine took the crown.
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S.
and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

Folie à Deux begins with Arthur behind bars in Arkham Asylum, waiting to see whether he will
be judged sane enough to stand trial for the murders he
committed two years prior.
In the meantime he is enjoying his celebrity status with fellow prisoners and even the warders,
one of whom, a sadistic Irishman played by Brendan Gleeson, feeds him cigarettes in return for jokes.

is working on options to exit the Russian market,
citing a complex and rapidly changing regulatory and operating environment
in the country following its invasion of Ukraine.
The company, which garnered around 6% its net revenue
from Russia in 2021, said on Thursday it has discontinued sale
of several cigarette products and canceled all product launches for
the year in Russia.
It has also canceled plans to make over 20 billion TEREA sticks, heated tobacco units intended
for use with its IQOS ILUMA devices, as well as related investment of $150 million.
Earlier this month, Philip Morris had suspended its planned investments and decided to scale down manufacturing operations in the country.

the worst film ever made.
‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of
talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels. This was loved by
the wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message.

this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f*** is this?’
And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing
I’ve ever seen.’
‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go,
‘What is the plot? Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her
in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is.’
Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its release
last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office,
good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half
that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the
movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of
sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive
as people are making it out to be. I love that the film didn’t
try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd
pleasing aspects.’
Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved
how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical
elements were a lot of fun.’

1 Dic 2024When he won his Best Actor Oscar for his eponymous role in Oppenheimer in March, Cillian Murphy told millions ‘I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight,’.
The Cork born star, 48, noted her was the first ever Irishman to win the award before cheekily
quipping ‘unless you count Daniel Day-Lewis, an Irish citizen, who,
with all the love and admiration in the world, I don’t’. He finished off his speech by thanking the crowd in Gaelic – saying ‘Go raibh mile maith agat,’.
But those paying attention to Hollywood won’t be shocked that an Irishman got
acting’s top gong. Half the Golden Globe nominees for the best actor category were held by
Irish actors last year in the same category were also Irish.
That’s on top of a record 14 Oscar nominations
– including the first ever for an Irish language
film.
Dubbed the ‘Craic Pack’ a new breed of actors appear
to be taking over La La Land, all hailing from the Emerald Isle.
For a country with just over five million people, the nation certainly punches above its weight in the arts
– with the biggest TV shows, books, and films made by Irish
people this year.
Among them are hottest stars of the moment, Maynooth-born Paul Mescal, Dubliner Saoirse Ronan, Barry Keoghan – whose
star cannot stop rising since his blockbuster role
in Saltburn.
Speaking to the Independent about Irish actors breaking into Hollywood,
CIillian said: ‘We have such a strong representation here for
such a small country, and it’s kind of unique and something we
should be very proud of, I suppose.’
He added that storytelling and performance is ‘part of who we are,’ and ‘part of our DNA’.
Thanks to an increase in arts funding, as well as new tax breaks for
filming and many hit TV shows set in Ireland making an impact across the Atlantic – it’s really a better time
than ever to be Irish in Hollywood.
Lisa McGee’s Derry Girls – set during the Troubles in Northern Ireland – became Channel 4’s
most successful comedy since Father Ted when it debuted in 2018 and
was picked up by Netflix internationally.
Then followed the hit adaptation of Sally Rooney’s
Normal People, e the BBC’s most-streamed series of 2020.

It was the first major role for Paul Mescal – who is now starring in Hollywood’s
biggest blockbuster, Gladiator 2.
When he starred in A Streetcar Named Desire
in the West End last year, Angelina Jolie came over from New York and
took him out for a coffee. The Irishman was
also pictured sharing a cigarette and a joke after meeting Natalie Portman for dinner.
Clearly hot property in Hollywood, Paul had a long
romance with the musician Phoebe Bridgers and is now dating nepo baby singer Gracie Abrams, daughter of J.J.
Abrams. He’s even been dubbed the ‘Pete Davidson for indie girls’ thanks to
his busy love-life.
Sexiness, is certainly a factor in the explosion of Irish actors on the scene.
Paul has a dedicated fan-run Instagram account with more
than 160,000 followers.
Meanwhile American comedian Brittany Broski crudely joked
that her greatest career goal was ‘Irish c***’ in a viral clip with nearly three million views.
Northern Irish journalist Róisín Lanigan told New York magazine that there’s something ‘twee
and sexy’ about being Irish.
‘Americans and English people were introduced to a new vision of Ireland:
rose-tinted and beautiful,,’ the new type of Irish, she adds is ‘hot and
sad.’
Incredibly Mescal, his rising star appears to be accidental.
At school in Maynooth, near Dublin, he was known as a sporty ‘jock’
– feted for his skill at Gaelic football.
Aged 16, he was compelled to audition for the school musical –
it was compulsory for all pupils – and it was that performance, which completely changed the course of his
life.
In an early interview, he said: ‘I was a 16-year-old boy and wanted to be perceived as cool by my friends.
‘I know for a fact I probably wouldn’t have auditioned because of the masculinity that I’d been prescribed by being on a sports team.
But since we all had to audition, I was, like, ‘Well,
I may as well put my best foot forward’.’
Teacher Anne Marie Lawlor recalls spotting the first signs of Mescal’s talent:
‘I taught him singing in his fourth year
of secondary school.
It was soon afterwards that he auditioned for the school
play – a production of Phantom Of The Opera. His history teacher Sinead
O’Carroll, who was also involved in the play, was blown away.

She said: ‘He was a natural from day one. It was 2012, the production was
The Phantom Of The Opera and he was the Phantom. He needed no instruction, no
coaching, he just turned up and assumed the role.

‘He was so, well, professional really. I’d never seen this from a pupil before.
‘Even when it came to the love scenes, he didn’t laugh or giggle
the way most young lads would. He just took it in his
stride like it was the most natural thing in the world.

But after Phantom, he started thinking about acting seriously, that
he could make a career of it.’
As Mescal has since recalled of stepping onto the stage: ‘I’ve never felt an adrenaline rush like
it.’
He considered joining the Army as a teen but, discussing it with a
careers guidance counsellor, was asked if he wouldn’t rather
go to drama school and pursue his burgeoning passion for acting
instead.
‘I think had I lived in London or LA or New York, there would have been a clearer kind of understanding that
you can go down this road for your job.
‘It took me a second to come to that conclusion living in Maynooth,’ he said.
Mescal, one of three children born to retired Garda [police] officer Dearbhla and retired teacher Paul, went on to study drama at the Lir Academy.
Scott saw in Mescal the charisma of his original Gladiator,
Russell Crowe, and a hint of Irish hellraiser Richard Harris, who
played Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the original film.

told Vanity Fair

His father was always involved in amateur dramatics and singing, and his sister Nell
is a successful singer.
But Paul has not forgotten his roots, as he was back
in Dublin for the premiere of Gladiator where he paid homage to the Emerald Isles.
Speaking to RTÉ, said he was ‘always blown away by Irish fans who come and
stand and wait to meet us.’
He added: ‘Myself and the other Irish in London talk about it all
the time – the welcome we get.’
In February 2023, Paul was praised for raising awareness of the Irish Gaelic
language on the Baftas red carpet.
This overjoyed lovers of Paul said that he had made them ‘proud’
to bring diversity to the star-studded event.
Normal People, based on Sally Rooney’s novel about teenage
lovers, won him a TV Bafta for best actor and became the

Paul isn’t the only Irish ambassador wowing on the small screen.
Eve Hewson, the daughter of Bono and activist Ali Hewson hails from
Dublin and shot to fame starring in Bad Sisters alongside an all Irish cast.
Written by Sharon Horgan, set in Dublin and filmed throughout Irelend, the black comedy
(based on Belgian series), wowed critics getting at rare 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomoatoes.
It picked up BAFTAs, a Peabody Award and got four-Emmy nominations.
She then went on to star in The Perfect Couple alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning.
And although she now splits her time between London and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, she
said there is nowhere quite like Ireland.
In an interview with the Irish Times, Eve said she spent most of the pandemic at home with her family in Dublin enjoying, ‘a sort of love affair with
Ireland,’ and added: ‘It’s been special’.
Eve said she had missed Ireland, adding: ‘The people. The craic.
The sesh.’ The sesh is pretty minimal at the moment, I say.
‘It is. But I can get on the sesh with my brothers, we’re in the same household.
The actress also said: ‘I’m really lucky I didn’t grow up in London. I’m really lucky I

with four Oscar nominations to her name.
She was recently cast in Steve McQueen’s film, Blitz, which is about a group of Londoners during World War II and was recently commended

Saoirse – who plays Rita – is even tipped to be in the running for best supporting actress Oscar, but getting the part was not that simple.

to visit home as much as possible and says she misses

Perhaps the biggest Irish breakout star of 2024 is Barry Keoghan has
risen through the ranks to become plastered all over our Instagram feeds after his performance as Oliver in Saltburn last November.
He’s even set to play Ringo Starr in an upcoming Beatles biopic.
The news was shared by the legendary drummer himself who confirmed
that Barry would be playing him on-screen in a film about the Beatles from his perspective.
Speaking about the project with Entertainment Tonight, Ringo
said: ‘I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.’

Barry has been pursuing his Hollywood dreams since he was 16 years old.
He grew up in Summerhill, Dublin with a very unsettled start to life due to his father’s absence
and his mother’s addiction to heroin.
He and his brother Eric went into foster care aged five and moved about 12 times when he was growing up.
When he was 12, Barry’s mother died of an overdose and he went to live
with his grandmother. But he said that this gave him the drive to succeed in one of the toughest
industries to crack – Hollywood.
Speaking to Esquire , he said: ‘You know what, I’m proud of it.
I’m not going to say what happened was the right thing, but it’s certainly given me a lot of ammunition.’
Barry said that acting is a form of escapism for
him, as he felt like the job allowed him to express himself.

wasn’t me, do you get what I’m saying? It’s like subconscious therapy.’

‘We’re only a country of 5 million people and I don’t know,
Irish people — just whether it’s through music, the written word, whether it’s prose
poetry, film, theater of course, we just — we have a deep

He added the Irish feel ‘the importance of story’ and for ‘leaning into stories
and meanings’.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations
reopened two days after a chaotic election, set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.
Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled a “sham” by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls,
billed as the toughest yet for the South West
Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) party,
in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems, including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left
areas with voters still in the queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended the vote for
a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo
who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:00 pm on Wednesday but
left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said. But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station, he
was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for a halt in the
electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday
and issue a joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for
Change (IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO which has
ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first
woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.
“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund,
who also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different
polling stations.
“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security agent.
“It was to get people frustrated.”

As their race for the US presidency comes down to
the wire, each major candidate has leaned heavily
on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala
Harris and border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject of fiercely debated ballot
referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where
the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about
10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state
constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed
by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”

Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional
protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland, a registered nurse,
has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly to young people
who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.

“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,”
Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez,
a 20-year-old college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions,
he conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the country from Mexico
during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he
said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the
proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest
and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the
border police who work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,”
Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums as
offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.

But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support
and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona
State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the
White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes
“a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’
concerns about “government interference,” she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state
senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial
closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

in theaters on October 4, but despite expectations, it bombed, raking in just under $40
million at the domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book
movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as
Harleen Lee Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him
the best actor Oscar in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered,’ a source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for the DC comics fan base.’

They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects they can roll out as they want to move on this from as quickly as possible.’

‘She is disappointed that Joker is pretty much a bomb,’ they said.
‘She thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination, especially since the first film was such a
success and Joaquin won an Oscar.
‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film.
Nobody knows what that is going to be, but she wants to audition.
‘She’s going to lobby hard to get a meeting with him once a script is presented, it
is a bucket list moment for her to be involved.’
Tarantino was set to create The Movie Critic which would have been his
tenth and final film, but on April 17, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the project was canceled.
The famed director is now believed to be working up a new project to
mark his final cinematic release.

Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office, with the psychological musical thriller also landing the lowest

Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is hoping the Joker 2 flop will just be a small blip in her career, after
the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the
higher score of C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually
took a little over $1 billion in the global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a budget
of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled to around $200 million for Folie À Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month, where
it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel,
which features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X.
‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original
wasn’t a musical.’
An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised by
the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered’
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared a
third, along with a monkey staring out a window.
One fan branded it ‘bad,’ adding:’ It was pretentious and dull.

But others did jump in in defense of the film, with one hailing it ‘amazing.’

‘ they continued. ‘I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to
the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured
as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical
elements were a lot of fun.’
Another source explained: ‘Gaga thought that this film could

perhaps an extra layer of warmth – to your outfits during the autumn and winter months.
From matte to glossy, opaque to sheer, and black to skin-toned shades, there’s a lot more
to consider than just the denier number when it
comes to picking out a pair of classic tights. And then, of course,
there is also patterned hosiery (think delicate designs like
a back seam, polka dots or lace detailing) to elevate your winter style.
‘Tis the season of hosiery
In 2024, tights should no longer be an obligation but a fashion choice.
Google searches for ‘tights’ are up by 115% since
the temperatures first dropped, and at high-street favourite M&S two
pairs are sold every minute. So what styles are we buying?
The top spot is claimed by the retailer’s 60 Denier Body Sensor Tights (a handy
three-pack that sells for just £8 and is available in a black,
navy and brown). The 40 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a
three-pack) are second favourite, followed by
the 30 Denier Body Sensor Tights (£8 for a three-pack).
The fourth most popular pair is the 60 Denier Magicwear
Opaque Tights (£14 for a two-pack), and the top five is rounded out by the
100 Denier Magicwear Opaque Tights (£14 for a two-pack).
These are the number one selling tights at Marks
& Spencer
M&S believes the decision between opaque and sheer tights should be based on the
formality of our outfit. ‘Opaque black tights will go with basically everything.
Often said to clash with black; blue or brown hues
are also an option.’
‘Sheer tights are great for more formal occasions and warmer temperatures, as they provide a lighter and more breathable option,’ the high street giant
added. ‘You can achieve that elegant, barely-there look with a little extra coverage.’
Similarly, intricate patterns, logos and glitter are best
suited for evening looks, says M&S. ‘For a daytime or
office look, stick with polka dots or diamond patterned tights, or if
you’re looking for some added cosiness, try cable-knit
tights for some subtle texture.’

The partner of the ex-CEO of the Abercrombie and Fitch clothing line pleaded not guilty Tuesday
in US federal court to charges of sex trafficking and interstate prostitution and was released on $10 million bond.
Briton Matthew Smith, the ex-CEO Mike Jeffries and their
fixer James Jacobson allegedly used a “casting couch” ploy to groom aspiring male models to
attend sex parties at which victims were plied with alcohol and drugs.
After his arrest in October in Florida with Jeffries,
Smith was held in custody in New York. Smith appeared in court
Tuesday in Central Islip on Long Island, to the east of New York City.
Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond
put up by Jeffries and his family, said a statement from the US attorney’s office for the eastern district of New
York.
An AFP photographer saw Smith leave the courthouse with what appeared to
be a large electronic surveillance bracelet
attached to his ankle.

Another hearing is scheduled for December 10 for Smith,
Jeffries and Jacobson.
Jeffries, 80, was released on a $10 million bond in late October.
Jeffries, who served as CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch from 1992
to 2014, is accused of creating and maintaining a ring that recruited young men to have sex with him and Smith.
Prosecutors allege that between December 2008 and March
2015 Jeffries, Smith and Jacobson used a combination of “force, fraud and coercion”
to traffic men in a sprawling prostitution enterprise.
Charging documents detail 15 anonymous victims, but prosecutors suggest the
scale was probably much larger and have appealed for witnesses and victims to come forward.
Prosecutors say young men were taken to the New York home of Jeffries and Smith and
to hotels in Britain, France, Italy, Morocco to have
sex with them.
Jeffries faces the prospect of life in prison if convicted.
Jacobson also pleaded not guilty to the same charges as the
other defendants and was released on half a million dollars bond in October.

11 Dic 2024LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday signalled a
slower than anticipated U.S. roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device, a choice
analysts said was positive for its competitors in the short term.
The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more than two thirds of its net revenues to
come from “smoke-free” products by 2030, up from 50% in 2025, as
it tries to transform its image from a cigarette purveyor to
a driver of the shift to healthier alternatives.
Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry into the U.S., the world’s largest market for nicotine products,
and had been expecting it from May 2024 next year.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring lobbyists
across a host of key U.S. states ahead of the launch.
Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch in four cities in two unnamed
U.S. states from 2024, but a national launch would only come after PMI receives approval to sell the
latest version, known as IQOS ILUMA.
The company was planning to apply for approval in October and expected it from 2025,
he continued.
“We need to warm up the tyres,” he said of the initial launch, which would help PMI fine tune its approach.
A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases, he continued, adding launching in 10
states in the first year would make sense.
Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.
“now looks delayed until ILUMA,” Owen Bennett, equity analyst at Jefferies, said in a note, adding this was a positive for PMI’s rivals.
Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products was no longer a priority.
It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net revenues to come from sales of
such products by 2025.
Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand ZYN, Olczak said, adding
it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco companies operating outside of nicotine.
PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue and
earnings per share, and ambitious volume targets for
IQOS and ZYN.
ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S.
would help drive an expected $2 billion in revenues there
in 2024, even before IQOS ILUMA, executives said.
